Gold made new highs for the move last week with a high of 2063.4 on Thursday. Futures have only traded north of 2050 two other times in history - in August 2020 and March of last year.
Other big winners this week were orange juice with its all-time highs mid-week, sugar at its highest level since 2012 and cocoa which traded above 3000 for the first time since Nov 2020, plus cattle hitting record highs.
KC wheat continues to put the whammy on Chicago futures as HRW traded to another all-time high vs SRW Friday of $2.00 before settling at +$1.96.
The Brazilian real had a big week too - up 3% against the US dollar on the week and 7% vs the dollar in the past 30 days.
As the real has continued to strengthen, futures prices paid to Brazilian producers has been on a rapid decline.
May futures are down 10 cents since mid-March but when taking the real’s 7% appreciation vs the dollar into consideration, futures have plummeted 90 cents.
