It’s been one of those weeks where nothing has gone as originally planned. With that being said, today’s update is a day late and takes a slightly different direction than normal.

I am speaking at a grower event in central Illinois this evening and figured I would kill two birds with one stone - updating you while also updating tonight’s presentation.

I have to admit, speaking to a large group of producers two weeks ahead of what’s undoubtedly one of the biggest reports of the year falls into the ‘things I would rather not do’ category.

Accurately predicting initial planted acreage is no small fete, especially this year where everything seems to be a moving target.

So let’s start with that - what’s moving?

Cotton.

Although it has chopped along in recent days - cotton is up more than 5% year-to-date:

Some look at this and see drought. I, on the other hand, look at and see the Northern Plains planting fencerow to fencerow:
