8 | Shady Shipments

Nothing to see here…

… just Chinese shipments of used cooking oil bound for the United States in the first nine months of the year up 108% from 2023 and up from exactly 0.00 tonnes in 2022.

7 | Front-loading

The U.S. continues to import a record amount of biomass-based diesel as the industry races to take advantage of the $1 per gallon blenders tax credit that will expire on December 31, front-loading imports before it is too late.

Renewable diesel imports set their second monthly record in a row in July at 67 million gallons, beating the old record set the month prior at 61 million.

This surge in renewable diesel imports has pushed year-to-date biomass-based diesel (renewable diesel + biodiesel) imports up 52% from this point in 2023 and more-than double the same period in 2022.

6 | Front-loading 2.0

Brazilian soybean meal exports are headed for a record in October, driven by a surge in European demand ahead of the EU Deforestation Regulation that was set to go into effect December 30, 2024.

Anticipating stricter import rules, European buyers front-loaded purchases of soybean meal that would be directly impacted by the new regulation.

As a result, Brazil’s October meal exports will set a monthly record by nearly 800tmt and surpass the previous all-time record set in May 2023 by 13%.
