9 | Feed me

Talking (Canadian) canola with Ryan sent me down a feed ingredient rabbit hole.

The overwhelming majority of U.S. canola oil and meal imports come from Canada.

U.S. canola oil demand is a split between food and fuel. Meal is destined for dairy, followed by beef.

Here is a breakdown of feed consumption by ingredient and species in the United States:


8 | Deviled eggs

January inflation came in at 3% - above analysts expectations, partly driven by a record month-on-month increase in the price of eggs.

Eggs rose 15.2% from December to January, and 53% from January 2024 to as bird flu continues to wreak havoc on the U.S. laying flock.
