What’s HOT
It’s a brutal week throughout the cornbelt as triple-digit temps drag on into the weekend.
It might be hot here in the Midwest, but our 100 degrees is nothing compared to Phoenix who just recorded its 25th consecutive day of temps above 110.
Yesterday afternoon, Phoenix hit 116 tying the all-time record high for that date and making the 11 day this month highs have been above 115.
Monday’s low was notable as well - at 94 degrees it was the 14th day in a row with lows above 90 degrees, doubling the previous record streak set three years ago.
There’s a different kind of heat brewing in the Black Sea as we are into our second week of amped up military action after the grain export corridor agreement was not extended on July 17.
While the back-and-forth rhetoric by both sides is difficult to follow and it is hard to understand the extent of the damage, much less the longer-term implications - what we do know is both sides seem to have their sights set on infrastructure that is critical to the flow of agricultural products out of the Black Sea region.
Russia has been actively attacking the major Ukrainian seaport of Odesa and more recently, firing missiles near Danube River ports which are particularly important in the absence of an export corridor agreement.
